Because I'm not. I'm furious. I tried to access my website account today and received a message saying my account has been suspended. No email to tell me why. No notification of any sort – just a message to contact billing/support. Which is easier said than done, seeing as my host lies about it's 1 hour response to emails and doesn't pick up the phone. I was immensely proud of my website and I think the chances are it's gone. Gut feeling. There shouldn't be any problem because of the billing, but I have a sneaky suspicion that the real problem is the spam attack I had last week. The terms and conditions state that accounts that give out spam will be suspended and whilst the spam didn't originate from me they probabl clogged up the server. There was also some talk of a fine for people doing that…so I'm woried about that too. Even if the issue is resolved, I am seriously considering saying goodbye to the site. It's taken up a lot of my time and there have been so many problems. I think I'll just cancel it, have a regular blog, maybe a blog for my life-list and maybe a blog for Riff, and just leave it there. I can't carry on with this crap any more.
{April 2, 2006} I can’t pretend that I’m happy
just read your email ~ if it’s because of the spam and you need a hand send me your i.p and i’ll see what i can do for you at work. we fix things up for a lot of people who’s networks are hijacked to send out spam.
i set up a wordpress blog here yesterday, the site is lush, especially for a freebie. i’m sick of the whole blog situation tho’ and i’ve hung up my bloggin hat today.
always here for you tho’ pal.
What a shame. I know that you spent a lot of time on that last blog. It looked great. I hope javarat can help you out and sort this mess. Take care and good luck.
Hi Lady S,
I do not know where your last blog was, but I just wanted to tell you that I have been blogging all over hell and back for about 3 years now, and I have never paid for anything because there are so many fine sites on the net willing to give their stuff away. I have used or am using Blogspot, Blogsome, Livejournal, 20six.co.uk, Blogs.ie, MT from an individual person, and a tonne of individual sites just in order to try them out. Blogger, Livejournal, MT and WordPress have thousands of my posts. With Blogger and LJ, there is a way to back up your posts. LJ can be done easily in XML. Plus with LJ you can use the Semagic client, and it will save as you go. I couldn’t live without it.
I’m betting your blog host HAS your data and would not have deleted it. Try to ‘kiss his arse’ at least until you get a copy of it. Then maybe threaten to sue him for denial of access which probably was not your fault to begin with. Blog hosts are responsible for spam attacks. THEY are supposed to handle it–that’s one reason you pay them.
Anyway, sometimes you can get a hold of a reader who has kept parts of your blog if you put out an ‘APB’.
I hope things go well for you. Don’t give up the ship. For every net nasty out there, there must be lots more nice ones with generous and kind hearts. I wish you all the best.
Cheers,
Eanna
Yes, don’t give up Shami; we would miss you. Get a free one. I use blogspot just because they are easy and free. That doesn’t sound good, but you know what I mean. Riff has to have a place to contact his minions and I didn’t get any bad spam from you. We have a firewall though so maybe that is why and don’t pay for a spam attack that wasn’t your fault. Hang in there
~Jane
Im so sorry to hear
it must be upsetting.
*hugs*
Aww, Sham, that does suck. I already miss the cartoons from Riff’s page…good luck getting the “support” to let you have access to your files.
